The Rundown - Weds 12/6/17: Paul Ryan; Cake case at SCOTUS; Jerusalem

My guest at 7:15 AM MT is Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

I know that people, especially in high-tax states, are squawking about losing some of their tax preferences, I'm very much in favor of this bill. It's mostly good policy, and it's absolutely necessary politics if the Democrats are to be prevented from taking back control of the federal government in 2018 and 2020...though that might happen anyway.

It looks more like the Masterpiece Cake case before the Supreme Court will be a 5-4 outcome in either direction with Anthony Kennedy deciding the result. Disappointing considering I thought Phillips would win 6-3. Kennedy's efforts to say that fundamental American law should be about whether a person might be offended by another person living up to his religious beliefs is itself offended.

We are expecting President Trump to announce on Wednesday (at roughly 11 AM Mountain Time) that the United States will now recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and eventually move our embassy there. It's about time, and those who are squawking that this will disrupt the peace process must be asked "What peace process?" and "How well has the current strategy, that you apparently want to continue, worked?" (Sounds a lot like what we should have asked George W Bush and Barack Obama about North Korea after the Bill Clinton failure.)

The Jerusalem news is overshadowing another welcome piece of US-Israel political news:

House passes Taylor Force Act (Seriously, if you don't know what this is, read it.)http://www.jpost.com/American-Politics/House-passes-bill-targeting-PA-over-terrorism-funding-517119

By the way, remember this?https://www.timesofisrael.com/tillerson-waters-down-statement-pa-changed-policy-of-terror-payments/

Back in the land of President Trump's overt ego and VP Mike Pence's covert ambitions, consider these:

Whaddya make of this?http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/363381-trump-thought-it-was-low-class-for-pence-to-bring-pets-to-vp

Versus this, which is getting a lot of attention and is quite well written, I think.https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/01/gods-plan-for-mike-pence/546569/
