Smoke From Wildfires Sends Air Pollution Levels Soaring

posted by Hector Gonzales -

Smoke from Northern California's deadly wildfires is sending air pollution levels soaring in San Francisco's Bay area and across the region.  San Francisco State University cancelled classes through Sunday due to "unhealthy air quality" and more than 200 flights have been scrubbed at San Francisco International Airport due to low visibility from heavy smoke.  One professor at UC Berkeley's School of Public Health compared it to being like living in Beijing.  He told the "Los Angeles Times" some students were even wearing masks on the East Bay campus.

Officials are advising residents to stay indoors, close their windows and set air conditioning units to recirculate inside air.
