Senate Passes Coronavirus Relief Bill That Provides Paid Sick Leave

Senate Takes Up Coronavirus Relief Bill Passed By House

The Senate passed the House's coronavirus relief package on Wednesday (March 18), sending it to the desk of President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it.

The bill will provide up to ten days of paid sick leave for workers who are being treated for coronavirus and those who have been told to self-isolate because they were exposed to somebody who has COVID-19. Workers who have children in schools that have closed are eligible to receive up to $200 per day.

The bill also provides free COVID-19 testing and will send money to states that are dealing with a massive spike in people applying for unemployment benefits.

The bill is the second phase of an economic stimulus package that legislators are working on. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that Senators are already working on phase three of the package, which will include direct cash payments to Americans who have been impacted by the global coronavirus pandemic.
