The Rundown - Mon 12/18/17:Fmr CIA head Michael Morell on endorsing Hillary

Thanks to all of you who contributed to help Aurora resident, Navy veteran, and Aurora theater shooting victim Joshua Nowlan as he heads into surgery to amputate his left leg, in the hopes of ending the pain he's suffered with through that terrible night. As promised, I matched 50% of your contributions. Yours totaled $1550 so I contributed $775 to help Joshua. Thanks to all of you for giving generously to help this worthy man. If you would like to help Joshua, here's the link (but for the record, my matching offer has expired...):

7:06 AM guest: Michael Morell

When former Acting Director of the CIA Michael Morell wrote an op-ed for the NY Times endorsing Hillary Clinton and made multiple TV appearances bashing Donald Trump, I wondered -- and told him I was wondering -- whether he was making a significant political mistake. In particular, whether, even though he had been out of government for a few years, his words would publicly make our intelligence community appear to be becoming partisan.

In a recent interview with Politico, he half-admitted that he might have made a mistake:

Morell attempts to clarify the reason he spoke to Politico in this subsequent interview:

I'm going to ask him directly on Monday morning: Did you make a mistake by endorsing Hillary Clinton, even if you thought she was the better candidate? I'll also ask him to assess Donald Trump's presidency so far, as far as the areas that he was involved with, e.g. national security, foreign policy, and intelligence.

If you're looking for info on the tax bill, here are a couple of resources, the first being a section of the bill itself in which they summarize some of the key changes from current law.

Senator-elect Doug Jones (D-AL) (I still can't believe a Democrat won Alabama) gave some very interesting answers in a conversation with CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday, including saying that President Trump should not resign over sexual misconduct allegations made prior to the election, and that he might occasionally vote with the Republicans in order to represent the people of his state. One wonders whether he's posturing or whether he's sincere, but if he's even slightly sincere he may not end up being a puppet for Chuck Schumer.
