What an insane world we live in. Think about this:
Devin Nunes, the Chairman of the committee whose Republican staff produced "the memo" that is the subject of so much political debate right now, has not read the intelligence that underlies the memo's conclusions.
The FBI is publicly saying the memo should not be released, that it is misleading and incomplete in a way that allows false conclusions to be drawn.
Nunes argues that the FBI is just continuing a pattern of stonewalling and CYA.
Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the Committee, who has apparently read the underlying intelligence, has put together a memo to react to the GOP memo but the GOP members of the committee refused to allow it to be released to the public at the same time as the Republican memo, arguing that it should go through the same process as the Republican memo.
And then, on Wednesday evening, we get this incredible exchange:
BREAKING: Discovered late tonight that Chairman Nunes made material changes to the memo he sent to White House – changes not approved by the Committee. White House therefore reviewing a document the Committee has not approved for release. pic.twitter.com/llhQK9L7l6— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) February 1, 2018
Here is the House Intel spokesman's statement on latest Schiff charges. He says edits were minor and included grammatical fixes and tweaks *suggested by the FBI and committee Democrats.* pic.twitter.com/Bxt7dl0npO— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) February 1, 2018
And then beyond the argument about who's lying, we now have media outlets calling each other fake news:
And if that's not enough, now a former White House employee may be suggesting that one of President Trump's closest advisers aimed to withhold evidence from an investigation...a claim that her (Hope Hicks') attorneys strenuously deny:
As we talked about yesterday, someone should put together a video of the Democrats not clapping at the State of the Union. Well, someone did...
