End the Correspondents Dinner?; The caravan arrives - The Rundown 4/30/18

Before getting to all the nastiness and tension of politics and so-called humor, let's start with a fantastic story: Shaquem Griffin, a linebacker for Central Florida University -- which went undefeated this past season -- and whose hand was amputated at the age of 4, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, the same team which his brother plays for. It will be undoubtedly very difficult to play at the NFL level with one hand, but this guy has proven for his whole life that he overcomes obstacles. I wish him lots of success. (See the end of the blog note for some Shaquem Griffin highlights.)

I have a lot of sympathy for people who want to make a better life in the United States. I have almost no sympathy for those who come here planning to lie, to not show up for a hearing, and generally to break our laws. I can't be alone...

I don't want to give Michelle Wolf more air time so I'm not going to embed any of the video of her non-funny and remarkably vicious performance at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday. It has some people suggesting the dinner should be canceled, but that's definitely not going to happen because the media would consider it as a loss to President Trump.

What's remarkable about these dinners is, at Matt Schlapp put it, no matter which party is in power the media and their hired-gun "comedians" always attack Republicans.

Consider the difference between what Wolf said about CNN versus about Fox. About CNN: "You guys love breaking news, and you did it. You broke it. Good work." About Fox: "Fox News is here. So, you know what that means, ladies: Cover your drinks. Seriously."

Wolf's Netflix special starts at the end of May. I'm still trying to decide if I hope she fails. I'm not really that kind of person, but she's sort of earned it.

Meanwhile, President Trump offered some counter-programming, going to a different Washington -- Washington, Michigan, a place he said he'd rather be than in Washington, DC. And I absolutely believe him.
