I think that what President Trump did was based more in spite than in something that relates more directly to why a person should or shouldn't maintain a security clearance.
That said, if there is any public figure who put himself in a position to deserve this, it's Brennan. Gregg Jarrett, in his book "The Russia Hoax", argues that Brennan was the person most responsible for the use of the "dossier" to encourage a "Russia collusion" investigation even though he knew or should have known that the dossier could not be relied upon. Beyond that, when you have a guy who despises a president enough to say things like this, you do have to wonder if he'd be willing to use classified information to try to hurt that president:
