DESCRIPTION

As the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I approaches, many of us are reminded about the past struggles of war that our country has endured. In Colorado, we have a deep history of war stemming back to the frontier days all the way to the present. In an effort to better honor our fallen, Colorado heroes, join TEDxMileHigh and Denver University graduate students as they guide you through the Fort Logan Cemetery telling the stories of forgotten soldiers who fought and died serving their country and their home state of Colorado. TOURDU students and faculty will lead a guided tour through Fort Logan National Cemetery, discussing the lives and legacies of veterans interred at the cemetery. After briefly describing the history of Fort Logan Cemetery, tour leaders including both professors and students will draw from their experiences working on the Veterans Legacy Program, a research-based curriculum initiative sponsored by the National Cemetery Administration. DU students have uncovered a wealth of fascinating information and stories about dozens of veterans whose lives and contributions were largely unknown to the public.

Students will tell you what they know about specific veterans; they will also talk about how the experience of doing research on veterans changed their lives and perspectives on American history and military service. Come hear about the lives of male and female veterans from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the First Gulf War, and recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, then witness an Unaccompanied Veteran Service. Guests are also invited to stop by the Anderson Academic Commons (Library) at the University of Denver after the tour and service, to see the exhibit, “More than a Headstone: The Lives and Legacies of Veterans buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery,” based on student research for the Veterans Legacy Program.
