TGIF Blogcast: Big day in federal court; what is burnout really?

Just One Thing: Big day for federal courts yesterday

Big day in federal courts yesterday:

A federal appeals court thrashed the lower court judge who approved former president Trump’s request for a so-called special master to review the documents taken from his estate at Mar a Lago. This clears the way for the investigation to begin led by recently appointed special counsel, Jack Smith, who has a reputation as an excellent and aggressive attorney but some conservatives think he’s biased against Republicans.

And, the Supreme Court left in place a stay preventing the implementation of Joe Biden’s illegal and immoral student loan scheme and said they will hear the case, with oral arguments in February. If anyone can get over the “standing” hurdle, I think Biden’s reprehensible plan is likely to get struck down. The only question is whether any liberal justice will vote correctly.

Senate rejects proposal to give rail workers seven days of paid sick leave | The Hill

And six Republican senators (4 of whom are likely running for president and 2 of whom are likely running for governor) voted with all Democrats except Joe Manchin to support forcing the railroad companies to give a week of paid sick leave to railroad workers even though in prior negotiations the workers traded away that benefit in return for other benefits that they preferred more. So disgusting to see those "Republicans" side with unions as they pander for their future political aspirations. Of course it's also a cheap vote for them because they knew it wouldn't pass. (Cruz, Rubio, Kennedy, Braun, Graham, and the execrable Josh Hawley.)

Several Democrats voted against the bill to prevent the strike because it didn't contain the paid-leave provision, which was a separate amendment. Those were basically the socialists, including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and, sadly, John "I'm not even pretending to be a moderate anymore" Hickenlooper.

Gotta give Joe Biden a little credit for pushing for the prior deal to be what Congress enforced. Imagine John Hickenlooper who always posed himself as a pragmatic moderate being to the left of Joe Biden. Ugh.
