Just One Thing: Why I can't trust the "justice" system

I don't want to be too skeptical of groups of people who often do hard and dangerous jobs for the benefit of the rest of us, but when people in the justice system cheat in order to get criminal convictions, in other words prioritizing conviction rates over actual justice, or in any other way cheat and lie, it wrecks my trust in "the system". And the likelihood that the government will, if they haven't already, execute an innocent person because of incompetence or malfeasance, is why I have turned against the death penalty. This lady is the poster child for the exact behavior that I fear. It's unclear to me whether she did what she did in order to help cops and prosecutors get convictions or because she was lazy...or both.

For the record, I do think there's benefit to encouraging all sorts of people to do all sorts of things. The problem comes when that encouragement turns into discrimination against others. (Those others tend to be straight white men who no more deserve to be discriminated against than does this "intersectional" CIA agent whose commitment to her nation and whose apparent excellence I celebrate.)

We'll discuss how to think about batteries when buying (or selling) a used EV.

Battery health, like engine health in a gas-powered car, is critical to keep your electric vehicle running. Whether you are a seasoned electric car owner or you’re considering the switch to buy one, when you keep your EV battery in top condition, the car lasts longer, and the vehicle retains more of its original value.
But what if you’re purchasing a used EV and don’t have information on how well the electric vehicle’s battery was maintained? To give potential buyers confidence in their purchase decision, Autotrader, a Cox Automotive brand, recently announced the availability of EV battery health scores on its used electric vehicle listings, giving shoppers a full picture of the battery’s performance, including usable range, before they buy.

Leland Vittert is host of "On Balance" on News Nation which airs, just for a few more weeks at 5 PM MT. Starting February 10, Leland moves to primetime, at 7 PM MT.

I highly recommend that you check out Leland Vittert's War Notes and sign up for the free daily email. (Weekdays, anyway.) It's a great deep dive into two or three of that day's top news stories and is basically Leland's "show prep."

One topic of discussion will be Trump's decision to revoke John Bolton's Secret Service protection which seems like a rather petty and loathsome move. Trump explains why he revoked Bolton's security clearance
