The FBI publicly acknowledged it “did not follow” protocol after receiving a tip last month that Florida gunman Nikolas Cruz was acting suspicious and could be planning a “school shooting” in the coming weeks.
According to Fox News, the bureau received a tip just weeks ago that Cruz wanted to “kill people” and may be in the final phases of “conducting a school shooting.”
“We are still investigating the facts. I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly,” he added.
The admission comes just hours after the Broward County Sheriff’s Department confirmed they responded to 39 incidents at Cruz’s home since 2010; raising serious questions over whether law enforcement missed key red flags that could have prevented the massacre.
